Mental Description:
Personality: Khalia’s sanity is fragile at the best of times. Other times, one might argue that she’s stark-raving mad. She is highly unstable, and always out-of-sync with other people – most brush her off as a half-wit or worse. Because Khalia has a very small concept of what is and isn’t socially acceptable, her mannerisms and eccentric behaviour tend to scare most people away from her. When she isn’t foretelling doom and gloom or invading somebody’s personal space, she’s usually dancing barefoot on city walls, quoting centuries-old poetry that no one understands, and screaming hysterically at things that aren’t frightening at all. Khalia’s allegiance can be quickly won over, and quickly destroyed. She never forgets an act of kindness, and she rarely, if ever, releases a grudge.Khalia’s brain might work in strange ways, but it does work. She is, in truth, exceedingly bright; able to pick up on patterns and details that most others miss. Her memory retains almost everything, and yet she has moments where it seems as if it’s almost gone. She is physically fast, and deadly when she wants to be. But because of her inability to function in normal society, for most of her life these gifts have gone to waste.
Bio: Khalia’s parents are believed to have been Draceleon nobles who settled, briefly, in Ashomal. They were ecstatic when she was chosen to be grafted, believing their unborn daughter would be special. Unique.
And she was, in ways they had never expected. The couple were deeply dissatisfied with the results of the grafting. They were enraged at the scientists, believing Khalia’s apparent mental affliction to be the appalling results of an experiment gone wrong. They abandoned her in a small coastal village in Ashomal, where she was quickly made an outcast and branded as a simpleton. An elderly healer woman took her in, and under the woman’s guidance Khalia learnt about herbs and medicines. She studied surprisingly well and soon became an assistant to the medic. The woman died when Khalia was sixteen, and she was on her own again. But one mid winter evening, a stranger came to the village, dripping with blood and shrouded in mystery. He was badly injured, though he wouldn’t say how or why. Khalia tended him. Impressed by her knowledge of plants and their potent effects, the man offered Khalia the opportunity to leave the village and work with him. Khalia took him up on the offer immediately, not feeling the slightest bit of doubt or hesitation when she discovered that the man was an assassin.
Specialties: Khalia is an Aquarian graft, identifiable by patches of shimmering scales on her body and gills on her neck that she usually keeps covered by her long hair. Her feet have small fins along their sides, and her fingers and toes have an odd, thin sort of webbing that resembles the tails and fins of fantail goldfish.
Occupation: Assassin- Khalia’s mentor (the man she healed in her home village) was a hired assassin, and usually selected jobs based solely on whichever paid the most. She doesn’t know where he is at the moment, as she hasn’t heard word from him since he embarked on a particularly risky mission. For the past three years Khalia has been trained in the martial arts, but poisons are always her weapon of choice.
Weaknesses/Fears:
- Loud noises: Khalia is absolutely terrified of them. Make something explode around her and she’ll run away screaming, clap in her ear and she’ll punch you in the face. For this reason loud machinery makes her jittery, and thunderstorms leave her a shaking mess.
- Dehydration: This weakness comes down to her Aquarian DNA. She carries a canteen of water with her almost everywhere, and prefers to stay close to coastal areas when she can. She finds dry climates horrendous.
- Powerful males: Khalia is naturally made nervous by males that are brash, dominant or physically stronger than her. Ironically, the men she trusts the most are usually men she works with, i.e. assassins.
Likes:
- Medicines and potions: Khalia is captivated by life and its relation to death, and by connection to this, potent plants. She is constantly enthralled by the fact that one plant might take a life, while another might save it. She also finds it an amusing irony that her previous work involved healing others, and her current line of work involves killing them.
- Sexual nature: There’s really no cleaner way to put it. The girl’s a straight up seductress. She is fascinated by the human body, both male and female. She will often stop at nothing to be able to observe it in its – as she calls it – primal state
- Pretty things: Flowers, birds, embroidered patterns. You name it. Sometimes Khalia will stare at a painting for hours, regardless of whether it’s good or not. If something is visually appealing or out of the ordinary in some way, she’ll like it.
Dislikes:
- Spicy foods: She can’t stand spicy foods. She can be extremely rude about it, without meaning to: sometimes if she doesn’t like the taste of something, she’ll spit it out right in front of whoever made it. Other times she’ll simply hide it somewhere strange.
- Ignorance: If Khalia thinks someone knows something they aren’t telling her, she won’t rest until she knows what it is. Her methods of finding out can range from pestering them incessantly to seducing them, scaring them, laying complicated traps for them and sneaking through their personal belongings. In contrast, when Khalia knows something others don’t know she enjoys it greatly.
- Law-enforcers: In Khalia’s line of work, this little prejudice can’t be helped. She doesn’t dislike them as people. They’re just an inconvenience for her.
